Incursion Overview

This sound and art incursion invites early primary students to become “sound detectives” as they explore listening, storytelling and visual art. Guided by author and artist Elaine Butler, students are introduced to the picture book Tappety Tap, What’s That Sound? from The Curious Adventures of Parker the Dog series and use the story as inspiration for creative exploration.

Students listen closely to sounds in the story and investigate new sounds made by different art tools and materials. Through guided role play and discussion, they connect sound, movement and imagination before designing and painting their own Detective Dog portrait.

This playful, hands-on session blends storytelling, sound exploration and visual art, building listening skills, creativity and confidence in a warm, engaging learning environment.

This workshop is part of our Primary School Creative Arts Incursions, designed for NSW schools and aligned with the Creative Arts syllabus.
